What is Indigo?

Indigo is the code name for the communications infrastructurer of Longhorn; It offers a unified programming model (unifying .NET remoting and VS.NET Web Services) and provides transports, security, messaging patterns, encoding, networking and hosting. Indigo allows writing distributed code, deferring the transport/protocol decision to the deployment phase. A few configuration lines can change an apoplication from an http/text/insecure application to a tcp/binary/secure wire protocol. The application code need never know.
